Hingham Girls Softball

2024 Summer Tryouts Registration

Sign-Up for the Summer/Travel Softball Tryout on May 19

We are getting ready for summer travel softball and looking forward to a great season!

Summer travel league tryouts for Hingham 10u, 12u and 14u teams are scheduled for Sunday, May 19 at Bare Cove/Carlson Field. The times are still TBD. We will provide times for the tryouts once registration is complete.

Girls born between Sept. 1, 2008 and Aug. 31, 2015 that would like to play in the summer travel league need to both register here and attend the tryouts. If you cannot attend tryouts, please register anyway and let us know that you cannot attend so other arrangements for an evaluation can be made.

We are not asking for payment now. If your daughter is placed on a team we will provide a link to complete payment at that time.  The cost for the 2024 summer travel season is:

  • $225 for returning players who do not need a new uniform (uniforms from prior summer travel seasons may be used).
  • $265 for players who require a new uniform.

PLEASE NOTE When registering for the tryouts, you will have the option to request a new uniform for the upcoming summer season.  We ask for this information in advance so we can place the uniform order now (and prior to payment), with the goal of having all new uniforms ready by the time the season kicks off in mid-June.  Please only make the request if your player requires a new uniform for the upcoming season and you intend to pay the increased amount ($265) noted above if your daughter is placed on a team.

What is the Summer/Travel league?

The summer travel league is a competitive option open to girls born between Sept. 1, 2008 and Aug. 31, 2015. All Hingham 10u, 12u and 14u teams participate in the South Shore Summer League (SSSL). Summer travel league teams are based on birth date:

  • 10U – Born Sept. 1, 2012 or later (10 years old or younger on Aug. 31, 2023)
  • 12U – Born Sept. 1, 2010 or later (12 years old or younger on Aug. 31, 2023)
  • 14U – Born Sept. 1, 2008 or later (14 years old or younger on Aug. 31, 2023)

PLEASE NOTE:  SSSL has adopted the new USA Softball age eligibility classifications for the 2024 season, as shown above.  As a result, the new cut off is Sept. 1 (previously it was Jan. 1 of the following year) and a player’s age as of Aug. 31 2023 determines the age in which the player is eligible to play.

Our goal is to have as many girls play as possible and to field as many teams as possible in each of the age brackets. Roster sizes are limited to 12-13 girls so player registration numbers, as well as the number of coaching volunteers, will dictate how many teams we will carry and if there will be cuts. We encourage all girls to tryout and all parents to volunteer. We will do our best to ensure we place as many girls as possible.  As in prior years, if there are enough girls and coaches to field multiple teams in a given age bracket, we will follow the A/B/C format of the SSSL.

What to expect with Summer Travel softball

Generally, the level of play is more competitive than the spring softball season as the girls will face other travel teams from throughout the South Shore, including Milton, Canton, Bridgewater, Plymouth, etc. While competitive, the season also offers the girls a fun and rewarding experience, as they are able to further develop their softball skills in a more challenging but supportive environment that focuses heavily on the development of fundamental skills.

In addition, while we understand there will be conflicts that arise in the summer, it is expected that the girls selected will be available for the vast majority of games. There are two games each week, typically played Monday – Thursday. The season starts the week of June 17th and runs through the end of July/early August depending on the playoffs.

If there are any questions about the level of play, the commitment required or anything else please feel free to reach out to us directly at the email address below.

Best Regards,

HGS Summer Travel League Committee
