    2020 - Summer Softball Options

This year, we have decided to Extend our Spring Recreational Season to the summer as well as continue our long tradition of participating in the South Shore Summer Softball League.  We understand this can be a bit confusing, so please see the breakdown of each option below.

    2020 - Extended Spring - Standings

    Extended Spring Recreational Softball

Recreational Softball is the first (entry) level or organized softball in most towns.

    Divisions:

    • Minors (Grades K - 1)
    • Division 1 (Grades 2 - 3)
    • Division 2 (Grades 4 - 5)
    • Division 3 (Grades 6 - 8)

    Travel

    • Minors - All Games & Practices are in Hingham
    • Divisions 1 - 3
      • Practices will be in Hingham
      • Games will be in Cohasset, Hingham, Norwell or Scituate

    Expected Nights of Play

    • Minors and Division 3 play on Tuesday and Thursday NIghts
    • Divisions 1 & 2 play on Monday and Wednesday nights
    • Practices and make-up games can be played any day/night
      • Coaches will communicate with parents about this
    • This is subject to change based on field availability in participating towns

    Dates of Play

    • Practices will start over the next 7-10 days
    • Games start June 29 (Pending the approval of Phase 3)
    • The season will wrap up the first week of August

This league is strictly recreational for the 4 towns.  The focus for most is developmental, fun and establishing a love for the game.

The better players in this league and those girls who want to want to play in a  more competitive league with better pitching, better teams and much more advanced level of play will choose to play Summer Travel Softball.

Girls can play both or just one, it depends on what the player wants and availability this summer.

    Summer Travel Softball

Summer Travel Softball is the next level or organized softball in Hingham.  It is a big step up from Recreational Softball, but not at the club level. Divisions are not based on grade, but strictly by age and this league is only open to girls born from 2001 - 2011.  Teams participate in the South Shore Summer Softball League and often a Tournament late in the season (we have not confirmed participation in any tournaments this year)

    Divisions:

    • 10U (Players born 2009 - 2011)
    • 12U (Players born 2007 - 2008)
    • 14U (Players born 2005 - 2006)
    • 18U (Players born 2001 - 2005)

    Travel

    • Practices will be in Hingham
    • Games expand beyond Cohasset, Hingham, Norwell or Scituate

    Expected Nights of Play

    • 10U & 14 U Play on Tuesday & Thursday
    • 12U & 18U Play on Monday & Wednesday

    Dates of Play

    • Practices will start over the next 7-10 days
    • Games start June 29 (Pending the approval of Phase 3)
    • The season will wrap up the first week of August

This difference in the caliber of play is visually obvious.  The focus is still developmental and fun, but advanced concepts and strategies are introduced.

The better players from the Recreational League, Club Players and girls who want to play competitive softball and learn the game are encouraged to play.  The girls do not need to be one of the best in their age group, they just need to have desire to improve and become a better player through the summer season.

Girls can play both or just one, it depends on what the player wants and availability this summer.

    Welcome To Hingham Girls Softball

HGS encourages all girls, grades K-8, to participate in this fun and exciting organization.  We provide players at all ages and skill levels an opportunity to play on a team that is right for them.

Our Recreational League stresses learning, fundamentals, lots of playing time and fun.

The Travel League is more time consuming, competitive and competes against the best young athletes on the South Shore.
